One very lucky little duck

Dad let the ducks out for a swim on the dam yesterday. Unfortunately when taking them back to their pen he lost one duckling. We searched for it but couldn't find it anywhere. This morning I found it outside the pen, it's very lucky there weren't any foxes or snakes about last night.

I have spent the day - when it wasn't raining - sampling grapes. Collecting samples from each variety to measure the average bunch weight and sugar levels (or Beaume). The whites are fairly stable, but the reds are increasing in bunch weight though not increasing in Beaume. Unfortunately the birds have eaten most of the Aleatico, we need it for the white.... it is now netted and we will hopefully have enough. They were eating them before they were anywhere near ripe..... There has also been a lot of rain (25 ml yesterday). I know we aren't allowed to complain about the rain in Australia, but farmers always complain so Ill pretend to be one too. Bloody rain! We have an outbreak of powdery mildew and are also concerned if it rains for much longer the berries will swell up so much that they will burst. Hopefully this wont happen.

It looks like I will be spending my third consecutive weekend at the vineyard and second alone.... anyone want to come and visit?
