Back in the UK

I spent one night in London before heading north to Newcastle. I was up there to visit the Institute for cell and molecular biosciences. My trip involved (in point form because I'm feeling lazy)
  • Meeting lots of lovely people working in the labs there,
  • Attended a very interesting talk on genomic and chemical-genomic large-scale mapping,
  • I saw a little of the town, but mainly while walking to or from a restaurant/pub/bar,
  • A drink at the Quayside. It's a beautiful area,
  • Disappointedly I only saw one group of girls obviously on a hens night, I'm told Newcastle has a reputation for the place to hold your hens and stag nights,
  • I was driven over the mini-Harbour Bridge and
  • meet up with Dave, a mate from Melbourne who just happened to be in Newcastle at the same time on work.
Unfortunately,
  • I didn't get a dance, this was disappointing as I have heard the dance clubs are quite good.
  • I didn't see the beach, which I have been told is similar to Sydney beaches - except I cant imagine getting a tan on it, while I was visiting everyone raved about how lucky I was to have such great weather, better than in the middle of summer...
  • I also managed to break the heal off the pair of boots I had just bought in Barcelona, this was even more frustrating because I didn't have a spare pair of shoes to wear while they were being repaired... bugger.
It was a very pleasant trip but I was happy to get back to London where it was very slightly warmer.
