Chilling in Melbourne

Matt and I have just returned from a 10 days house sitting in Melbourne. It was a very relaxing time, I took a few books, bought some red wine and settled in. The main reason we were house sitting was named Tash. Supposedly in the last few years Tash has been settling down, I’m not sure I would have wanted to know her when she was young. A very energetic ball of energy. We were staying in a lovely house in the suburbs complete with pool table. There was also a chess set which was appreciated as Matt had promised to teach me to play chess. Interesting experience, I learnt more about life than chess, but supposedly I’m ok at chess too.

I was able to catch up with Steph – who I first meet in Greece 7 years ago where we spent 36 hours on a ferry docked in the port after we narrowly missed catching the earlier ferry which subsequently sank killing 70 people. We became firm friends doing what any Aussie girls would do – teaching foreign boys drinking games. I also caught up with Stu, who I met at a wedding in Perth last year. We had a lovely night, a few glasses of red, a pleasant dinner, a few more drinks and a long awaited dance. Excellent.

On the weekend we headed to Gippsland to spend a night at Moe with more of Matt’s family, Denise and Karen. It was a gorgeous spot and thanks to a little rain quite green. The weather was freezing but we didn’t know anything about it, the whole house was toasty thanks to a fantastic fire. Matt and I played chess before dinner, then we all played cards and finally scrabble afterwards.

Leaving Denise and Karen’s place we headed to Matt’s parents for lunch. Matt’s father was surprised I wanted a cup of tea before getting into the red, however I made up for it by helping him polish off two bottles in about 3 hours. We had a lovely lunch, played cards before Matt and I headed back to Melbourne to see Orisha play at Loop. There were three acts that night, a duo, she painted while he created noise. Orisha was next, she has an amazing voice and preformed a lovely set. The third act of the night were “interesting”, one guy was playing a set of TV antennae, umm….. we didn’t stick around to hear them finish. Not wanting to go home so sober, we walked to Brunswick St and found a funky little bar. We had a few jugs and played space-invaders before calling it a night.

Arriving in at Sydney airport late the following night we both commented on how warm it was.... I cant believe what a difference a few degrees makes.

The last three were taken with my phone... not bad.
