Waiting....

Now that I had a lot more time on my hands I decided a visit to Ko Phangan was in order. I called Sac and arranged to head over the following day. I made it onto the lunchtime ferry, enjoying the trip over. Once at Had Rin I got a songthaw and called Sac again. While Sac’s English is very good in person it is not on the phone…. I think he told me they were busy and that I should find somewhere to stay and he would come and get me later…. So that’s what I did. Found a cute little beach resort and moved in. I spent some time on the beach before Sac called. I put the owner of the resort on the phone to tell Sac exactly where I was staying. So I got ready for someone to pick me up. I waited for a few hours then called Chipy to say hi and he suggested he pick me up and we have a drink in Had Rin, as I obviously wasn’t meeting up with the boys I agreed. We got to Had Rin at 11pm and left at 3am when the place shut. It was a fun night, the crowd is much younger than Samui, less Thais and more drunken Farang. At one point one of Chipy’s friends who was running a bar made me get up and have a dance… fun, but a little scary as the bar was rather narrow.

The following day I rang Sac and asked how to get to the ice-making factory, I wanted to get a taxi. Unfortunately Ko Phangan doesn’t have taxis, just songthaws so Sac told me to hire a bike. I tried to but as my passport was in Samui no one would hire me a bike. I found someone willing to drive me to the factory and rang Sac to get specific directions. He told me he would send Nong Kai to get me. So again I waited. And waited. Later that evening I went into the main part of town for some dinner. While I was there Sac called and said Nong Kai had tried to find me at three bungalows but couldn’t…. tomorrow…. So I went back to my bungalow for a quite night. The following morning I had to check out so called Sac again. He said they had some work to do but would get me in an hour…. 3 hours later I had had enough. I really wanted to see the guys but I couldn’t handle waiting any longer. The resort I was staying at was really pretty and very relaxing but I wasn’t enjoying it at all. I had some Songkran presents for the guys so rang Sac to ask where to leave them. I spoke to Nong Kai but neither of us could understand each other. Exasperated I was about to get a songthaw back to Had Rin when Sac called. I told him I had to get back to Samui he asked where I was and sent Nong Kai again. 20 min later I finally see him… I had nearly given up hope.

The guys were taking ice somewhere so Sac and I chatted for a while, all his plans…. The ice-making factory was running smoothly now so he was planning his next venture. His family is quite big on the island (Sac said I should have called him when I couldn’t hire a bike – for lack of passport – and he would tell then who he was and I would have been given a bike….) owns lots of property all over the place. He was thinking to develop some property but didn’t have the connections to sell/lease it to farangs with money. If I could get the contacts we could start a partnership…. Selling property…. Like the resort in the Philippines I don’t think it’s my calling… The guys came back and we caught up. They were a little surprised to realise I had been in Asia the whole time but this was only the second time I had been to visit…. They thought I had gone back to Australia and only just returned…. I felt a little bad. I did tell them about all the places I had been to…

It was lovely catching up with them and in the end I missed my ferry back to Samui…. But it was worth it, I went on a trip to deliver ice to the north of the island. As always the boys always get lots of comments about me from other Thais… Its much more normal for a Thai girl to hang out with farang than a farang girl to hang out with a group of Thai guys…. We do get lots of strange look, especially as everyone seems to know A, Bow and Kai – Sac doesn’t do much of the menial work…. We then headed back for some fresh crab, squid and prawns – some of the perks of delivering ice to fishing boats – and alcohol. Everyone there seemed to be trying to get me drunk, mostly the guys I didn’t know. Thankfully drinking with Dennis for so long there wasn’t much chance of that. I could have easily drunk them all under the table.

It was fantastic to catch up with the buys, Sac still has ambition pouring out his ears, but since I keep coming back to see them has a little more time for me now so talks more, although he still cant drink much – pours one 10th alcohol: nine 10th soda for himself but the opposite for me. A is as sweet and caring as always – except he has lots heaps of weight and A didn’t have much to start with… Bow is loveble, always joking around, the smile growing larger on his face with each drink and Nong Kai, cheeky but growing more sure of himself by the day, he has come along way from the incredibly shy boy of 15 I met 4.5 years ago.

It was lovely to see them and Im glad I stayed the extra night, but the following morning I headed back to Samui.

Pictures from the resort I stayed in at Thong Sala, Ko Phangan. The boys wouldn't let me take any photos of them...
